Favorites Around the World

Mangonui, New Zealand

Favorite Shops/ Restaurant brought up quite a bit of discussion. The local town has two fish and chip shops, and there are five fish and chip shops with 6 km. The nearest McDonald's and Kentucky Fired Chicken shops are 31 km away. There is a Pizza Hut 130 km away; and we think there is a Wendy’s there too, but on-one has visited it. We know there is a Wendy's and a Burger King and several Pizza Hut in Auckland which is a four and half hours drive away.

Some children have eaten tacos at home. Pizza that mum makes is reasonably common, but take away pizza is not really known. So there most favored take away was McDonald's, Kentucky Fried checks a close second but the one we go to the most often is a fish and chip shop.

Lewiston, Maine, USA

Within walking distance of Martel School are located Tim Horton, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Margarita’s, Sam’s Pizza, Wendy's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, D’Angelosa's well as 2 Chinese Restaurants, and a steak house. Dunkin Donuts is less than 3 miles away and there are at least 6 other restaurants within the area. Interestingly enough not one is a Fish & Chips Restaurant.

Once again it seems that the children of Lewiston, Maine ate out often 12 out of 19 students eat take-out up to 4 times in a week. That is a lot of take out !
Indeed our dietary customs indicate that we like the convenience of “Fast Food” restaurants. This would also indicate a difference in the community size as well. Lewiston is the second largest city urban area in the state of Maine. More people usually results in more restaurants.

Dundalk, Ireland

The dishes of Ireland were very much like ours. We also enjoy Sheperd’s pie at home. Our Sheperd’s pie is made of ground hamburger, cream corn, covered with mash potatoes. Beef Stew was a home cooked meal that many students had at home. That was a Yumyum rating. Fish fingers or fish sticks was also a home favorite.

U.S.A.'s Conclusions

All three countries have McDonald’s. Students from Ireland, USA, and New Zealand had that ‘take-away’ in common. Students in the USA eat had a greater variety of “fast food restaurants” in their city. All students enjoyed home cooked meals, pizza, and fish. Students in Ireland and New Zealand probably eat healty meals because they do not go to fast food restaurants as often as the USA students.

McDonald’s selected as a favorite “Take-away” or “Fast Food” Resataurant in three continents.
